FAQs

Q: When will I receive my order?

We aim to process your order within 2-3 days of you placing it. We will email you with any tracking details once your item has shipped. UK deliveries with Royal Mail generally take 2-4 working days. For International orders, please refer to the Royal Mail website and select your country for the most accurate information.

Q: Is your packaging sustainable?

All of our packaging is either recyclable or compostable. For smaller parcels, we use 100% compostable mailers: you can dispose of these in your food waste at home or your compost heap, if you have one, and they will break down over time. For bigger parcels, we use recyclable cardboard boxes. We are currently sourcing biodegradable alternatives to regular packing tape and in the meantime ask you to remove the tape from your boxes before recycling. Our note card included with our orders are also recyclable, and the ink we use for our stamps is non-toxic. The stamps themselves are handmade in UK from environmentally sourced oak, and the rubber is made from a natural eco rubber.

Q: Where do you source your pieces?

We source our vintage pieces from a range of different places, but what makes us unique is that we source almost exclusively from the UK. This is mainly to keep our carbon footprint at a minimum. Plus, the UK (and Ireland, too) already has a plethora of amazing vintage for us to tap into. However, on occasion, if the piece is right for us or we’re taking a trip somewhere anyway, we will source from abroad – look out on our product pages for any extra information like this.

Q: How do you know what decade each vintage piece is from?

When we source a piece at Because Of The Times, we endeavour to research what decade or era the item is from so that you know as much about the piece you’re buying as possible: we believe details like this are what make buying vintage and second-hand that little bit more exciting. We extensively research labels online and tap into the knowledge of the wider vintage community for expertise where necessary so that we can give you the most accurate dating we can.

Q: Why do you focus more on sourcing products made from natural fibres?

We lean towards more natural fibres like linen, cotton, silk and wool, not only because they look and feel nicer to wear, but also because they have a lower impact on the environment, both at the start of their life and the end. Well-made pieces made from synthetic fibres still feature: the longer pieces are in circulation, the better.
